APPRENTICE of the year is a new honour being presented at this years Mersey Partnership Annual Tourism Awards.
Hospitality or Tourism businesses which want to reward their brightest young stars are being asked to outline their key achievements over the past 12 months.
Judges will be looking for commitment, achievement and outstanding contributions from the nominees.
The new accolade is being sponsored by Greater Merseyside Learning and Skills Council.
Executive direct or Elaine Bowker said: ‘Hospitality and Tourism is one of the most important employment sectors in Greater Merseyside economy.
With 2008 being rapidly approaching highly skilled staff plat an important role in setting the standards for the Capital of Culture.
‘The Learning and Skills Council Greater Merseyside is delighted to sponsor the Hospitality and Tourism Apprentice of the year, which recognises the benefits training will bring to a business.’
Meanwhile the important contribution to tourism by small businesses will be recognised in the Best Small Tourism Business award. Any company on the region with less than 250 employees, and which has been running for mare than 6 months, is eligible.

A spokeswoman for this year’s award said: ‘With the lead up to the Capital of Culture in 2008 it’s really important all tourism businesses across Greater Merseyside are delivering high quality services directly or indirectly to customers.
‘Small Tourism Businesses are key contributors to the economy prosperity of the sub-region and, by raising their game, will ensure that visitors and local people receive the highest quality service.
‘The TMP Tourism Awards is an excellent way of showcasing excellence.’
This years competition is sponsored by Merseytravel and organised in association with North West Regional Development Agency, Liverpool John Lennon Airport and the ECHO.
Closing dates for entries is Tuesday, March 29, and prizes will be handed out at a gala event at St George’s Hall on Friday. May 20.
